PeakHour 3 App Reviews
i struggle a little to make it works with my freebox revolution that doesn’t support snmp. through the forum i found out my solution for a mac environment and now it works perfectly. PH3 delivers exactly what i was looking for. Look forward to see improvements on history length and related analysis capabilities, and of course a little on graphical look&feel. overall a really good application.
If your device has more than 3 interfaces, well, don’t buy this app. For a small cisco switch, the app just crash or still loading forever at the interface configuration.
This app is very unstable. It crashes when configuring settings and when its left completely alone to do it’s own thing. The longest period of time we’ve gotten the app to run before unexpectedly crashing was 10 days. Which is not very good at all when you’re trying to calculate billable bandwidth usage. I would not consider purchasing this app if you have any real intent on tracking accurate stats at all. It needs constant monitoring to make sure it’s still running. Other than the crashing, it’s a good app… easy to setup and to use. I would also recommend the developers make some sort of way of calculating / viewing actual data usage during set periods of time rather than just a cumlative total counter. Having to export csv files then import them into another program to figure this out is very time consuming.
Unhappy
Cant find UPnP on rogers rented modem. Did everything to get it to work but fails. Not recommended.
The application is very well done and the interface is very nicely designed! I really like to have the current bandwidth, customizable charts of usage and the progress that shows download/upload and remaining per day. It also works with Cisco IOS routers! For me, the app is awesome and it does the job! I cannot think of any feature missing!
Crashes
Crashes on 10.7.5
The product seems very nice and easy to use, however, the newest version Airport Extreme and Time Capsule DO NOT work as they no longer support SNMP! This should be posted somewhere as this product is completely pointless without this capability!
This app works great. I use it with a Cisco SF300 and I am able to monitor all VLAN ports and watch data that is passing through my cable modem. I also have a Synoology DS1513+ and i’m able to watch traffic on the device with SNMP as well. If you are trying to use this with an Apple Router don’t bother they don’t support SNMP anymore, however this will work with 90% of Cable modems that support DHCP; Just turn your apple router into bridge and let the cable modem provide the DHCP. This will proivde you with the ability to monitor your data usage. This app is for a beginner or advanced users if you know something about SNMP and how to configure it. This apps works great and i’ve been using PeakHour for over 3 years now and just upgraded to PeakHour3 with no issues.
This is a great app that provides the data advertised above. I use it to keep tabs on my bandwidth usage so I don’t run over each month. It offers configurable alerts at usage amounts you define via email and notification center alerts. I have it let me know in 50 gig increments just to make sure I am not unpleasantly surprised as the end of the month approaches. This info is however readily available at any time conveniently enough right from the menu bar. I’m very happy with this app and would highly recommend it to anyone needing or wanting the monitoring it provides. Just be sure you run free PeakHour Compatibility Tool app available here on the App Store which is conveniently linked on the right side of the store page here to ensure your hardware offers the necessary support for an app of this kind to work. I own a 5th Generation Airport Extreme and a 2nd Generation Airport Express which both work with this. However, Apple routers newer than these dropped SNMP support which means this app is unable to monitor them unfortunately. If you really need or want this kind of monitoring, you’ll need a different router that supports it. One last thing, support by this developer is excellent. A recent update just prior to this one introduced an issue where PeakHour 3 would crash when my iMac went to sleep or was coming out of it. So I’d have to restart it each time. I contacted them about this and they were already aware and at work on a fix. He asked me to send along some crash reports and gave clear instructions on how to do so. I did this and he got back to me kindly offering me access to a beta version with the fix for the problem in it to hold me over until the fixed version available here now had gone through the App Store approval process which takes some days usually. So he went out of his way to take care of me after the sale on a very reasonably priced app that normally works like a charm and is again now that this fixed version (3.0.7) is up on the store. 5 Stars from this very satisfied customer. Thank you Mr. Lawford.
Says optimized for El Capitan, but have to know networking protocols to know that it doesn’t work with Airport Extreme! Should be made very clear, instead of “Compatible with most SNMP and UPnP-enabled network devices*.”
I was looking for a way to monitor my ISP’s (somewhat dubious) upload speeds. PeakHour was up & running within about a minute watching my Airport’s outgoing Ethernet interface. The discovery mechanism is simple to use and effective; the graphs are great. I’ve paid 10X the amount for network monitoring tools in the past then been stumped by their overwhelming complexity & confusing interfaces. Keep up the good work!
